# Logging In

Gaining access to the system

### Logging In

To login to the system you must have a User account with console access permission.

The user account consists of your email and a password.

To gain entry navigate to the **/login** page and enter your details. Click the 'Log In' button to login.

To login with passkeys see [Using Passkeys](/sentinel-documentation/resources/profile-settings/passkeys/using-passkeys.md)

{% hint style="info" %}
If you do not have console access permission you will not be able to access the console.

Please speak to a System Administrator who can assist you.
{% endhint %}

### Multi-Factor Authentication

It is strongly advised for all system users to enable and use two-factor authentication.

When enabled after each password entry you will be also required to enter your two-factor code.

{% hint style="info" %}
You cannot disable the two-factor authentication when you have lost your linked authenticator.

If do lose or have your device stolen - please contact a System Administrator.
{% endhint %}

### Password Reset

If you forget your password you can reset this from the main login screen.

{% hint style="info" %}
The password reset setting must be enabled for password resets to be visible.

See [system settings](/sentinel-documentation/system-administration/system-settings.md) if you want to disable password resets for your system.
{% endhint %}

Click 'Forgot Password?' from the login screen.

Enter you email and if your account is found you will be sent reset instructions via email.

### Lockouts

To prevent unauthorised access the number of attempts you can make to login is restricted.

If you fail to enter your password or two-factor authentication password too many time you will be locked out and will not be able to attempt again for a short period of time.

You will be sent an email to let you know you have been locked out.
