# Permissions
The permissions tab shows a system user's permissions.
Permissions can be assigned directly to the user or via a permission group.

Tip: It is recommended to use permission groups to manage groups of users' permissions. Via permission groups permissions can be assigned and revoked quickly in bulk.

#### Direct Permissions
Direct permissions are standalone permissions which are given outside of a permission group.
You may choose to assign permissions directly if not using permission groups.
Clicking on the 'Direct Permissions' button provides a menu where the permissions can be assigned.
#### Permission Groups
Permission Groups are collections of permissions with assigned users. Any user assigned to a Permission Group is given the same permissions of the Permission Group.
Permission Groups can be used to define clear roles across the system e.g. Chat Admin or HR Manager.
Clicking 'Permission Groups' will navigate to the Permission Groups configuration screens for full configuration.

Tip: Note that if a user belongs to multiple permission groups - as long as a permission exists in one of the groups the user will gain permission.
